These Fighter Jets Pack the Biggest Punch

In November 2024, Israel signed a deal with the U.S. to purchase 25 next-generation F-15 fighter jets from Boeing Co. The jets will integrate existing Israeli weapons along with increasing payload capacity. When people refer to an aircraft’s payload, they are referring to all of the items a plane needs to carry during its flight. This includes cargo, passengers, fuel, weapons, and any other items the aircraft needs to carry. Fighter jets with a big capacity for payload can carry more ordnance. Although some fighter jets are designed to carry heavy weapons, other military planes need a heavy payload maximum for other reasons. (Also check out the newest U.S. Air Force combat aircraft currently in service.)

Currently, the F-15EX is the latest generation of F-15 jets. The military just announced a successful first test flight of the F-15EX on March 17, 2025. The military plans to use the F-15EX to replace the older F-15C/D models. One major upgrade for the F-15EX is the increased amount of payload (28,990 pounds of munitions.)

24/7 Wall St. ranked fighter jets by order of which can carry the biggest payload. To find our data, we reviewed Military Factory, an online database of military vehicles, aircraft, arms, and more. The following list is ordered by the maximum payload weight each jet can carry. We added supplemental data, which also came from Military Factory.

(This article was updated on March 18, 2025, to reflect recent news regarding F-15 fighter jets.)

Why Are We Covering This Now?

At over, 28,000 pounds, the latest generation of F-15EX jets will boast even greater payload capacities than any on this list. Understanding fighter jets with maximum payload capacity offers valuable insights into global military capabilities and defense strategies. This knowledge is critical for accurate threat assessment and the development of effective countermeasures.
