Why is Everyone Suddenly Searching Online for This Gun?

Under the Trump administration, gun laws are changing and, in many cases, becoming less restrictive. When Trump was first headed into office, gun sales and online searches spiked — as many people were afraid of the incoming political instability. Pair that with Trump’s dual assassination attempts and pretty much anybody could understand why concerns about gun violence were at an all time high. But in office, Trump has shown himself to be a fairly gun friendly president. In early April 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice repealed a Biden-era “zero tolerance” policy where gun dealers lost their licenses if they “willfully committed serious violations such as failing to conduct background checks.” Many critics say that this change could cause spikes in gun violence. However, the change is heavily supported by many gun rights advocates and groups. (Most Americans can’t answer these simple gun law questions.)

Despite the fact that gun laws and regulations are changing across the country, and less people are supposedly buying guns than ever before, guns are enshrined in American culture — and that’s probably not going to change anytime soon. Certain guns remain more popular and sought-after than others. But which guns are those? Here, 24/7 Wall St. explored the most popular guns by search volume. We used Google Trends to identify the most searched for handguns in the United States. While we explored 2025 data, we also looked at five years of data to see which guns have been trended and to give you a more comprehensive picture of online gun searches. The guns below are listed in no specific order.

This previously published article was updated on April 21, 2025 to update search data information and to provide an overview of specific gun law changes in the United States.

Why We’re Talking Gun Searches and Sales

Gun sales seem to spike after news cycles, political events, and acts of violence. While people own guns for many reasons, including hunting and sport, guns are also used heavily for self-defense, which makes sense that gun sales would follow these patterns. By looking at gun searches and which guns are trending online, we learn what people actually want — and not just what manufacturers are pushing. As gun restrictions begin to open up in different areas of the country, seeing which guns are trending (and why) gives you insight into where gun sales may boom in the future.

These are the most searched for handguns in America:

Glock G19

This versatile semi-automatic handgun offers great firepower and extreme accuracy in shooting. Looking at Google Trends from 2025, the Glock G19 has somewhat fallen in interest from the start of the year, when it was heavily searched for. However, looking at Google Trends from the last five years, the Glock G19 has maintained user interest and shown steady search volume, with the highest search volumes between May 31-June 6, 2020 and December 29, 2024 to January 4, 2025. Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and New Mexico are the states with the highest search volumes.

Sig Sauer P320

The Sig Sauer P320’s search volume spiked during the pandemic and has gradually dipped until 2021. Searches have remained steady ever since. People seem to enjoy the Sig Sauer P320 because of its modularity and precision. Many buyers view this gun as a great option for self-defense. Residents in New Hampshire, Montana, Alaska, Wyoming, and Idaho are the most interested in this gun.

CZ 75

The search volume for the CZ 75 has remained steady since 2021, but it did have a slight dip in 2024. Like many weapons on this list, the CZ 75 searches were highest at the time of the pandemic, when many people were feeling nervous about the future. The gun gets most of its search interest from Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, and California, making it the first gun on our list that wasn’t as highly searched in New Hampshire.

Glock G43

This ultra-concealable 9mm pistol has incredible accuracy — and safety, thanks to its Firing Pin/Trigger Block system. Unlike other Glock guns, search volume for the Glock G43 has wavered significantly. Periods of February, April, and October 2024 saw no search volume at all for this gun. However, renewed interest has led to more searches at the start of 2025, especially around the time that Trump was sworn into office. The search interest is largest for the Glock G43 in Mississippi, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.

Sig Sauer P365

AUSA Annual Meeting And Exposition Held In Washington, D.C.

The Sig Sauer P365 has volatile search volume and, looking at data from the pandemic, was one of the only guns that did not have intrest spike then. However, the number of searches surged at the end of 2024 and have remained relatively high since. This corresponds with some updated tech and customized parts for the P365. The Sig Sauer P365 is one of the most searched guns on our list. And who seems most interested? If you’re in Idaho, Florida, Arizona, Montana, or Nevada, your state is all about this gun.

Colt Python

The Colt Python is a heavy, yet well-lauded, double-action revolver chambered in .357 Magnum. This gun’s search volume has remained steady over time with little fluctuation. The revolver’s top five states based on search interest are Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, West Virginia, and North Dakota.

Ruger Blackhawk

Ruger+Blackhawk | Holly Grips Ruger Blackhawk

Search volume for the Ruger Blackhawk picked up momentum near the end of 2024, though this has fallen slightly as we’ve entered into 2025. Montana and Wyoming residents are the most interested in this gun, with Alaska, Idaho, and West Virginia rounding out the top five. If you’re a target shooter, you’d probably enjoy using this gun.

Taurus Judge

Taurus+Judge | Taurus Judge Magnum noBG

Okay, so the Taurus Judge has seen some volatility in search volume — and it’s currently one of the lesser-searched guns on this list, despite its solid frame, capability of chambering both 45 Colt and 410 shotshell, and formidable use in home defense. The Taurus Judge’s search volume peaked during the pandemic, then for a week in 2023, but has since fallen. Maybe people are just searching for more advanced weapons? Either way, the residents of West Virginia still seem tied to the Taurus Judge. The other top four states are Montana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Wyoming.

CZ Shadow 2 Compact

The CZ Shadow 2 Compact is (as the name suggests) a compact firearm with great portability and reliability. This gun, a smaller version of the full-size CZ Shadow 2, has maintained steady search volume over the past year. People in Montana seem to really love this gun, given the search volume, but Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, and Arizona were not that far behind.

Sig Sauer P938

The Sig Sauer P938 has remained a popular gun ever since its introduction at the 2011 SHOT Show. Search volume has remained steady over the past year, though it has recently vaccilated between high and low search volume. Kentucky, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Idaho, and Wyoming lead the way in search interest.

Staccato P4

Woman Carrying Handgun

The Staccato P4, produced by Staccato Firearms, may not be the most well-known gun on this list by name. But after a great showing at SHOT 2025, the Staccato P4 saw a significant increase in search numbers, with January 26-February 1, 2025 being the highest searched for this gun. The Staccato P4 is built for both use in duty or for concealed carry. While there are small numbers of people searching for the Staccato P4 across the country, West Virginia is by far the hotspot for searches.
