Walmart's Sam's Club gets something new Costco doesn't have

It can be a difficult thing to pinpoint the best rivalry in the history of the world.

For many New Englanders, the Red Sox versus Yankees rivalry of the early 2000s is definitely up there.

If history is your thing, maybe it's England versus France, for give or take eight centuries.

If you're more collegiately inclined, Michigan versus Ohio State might be your cup of tea.

If you're a sports and history buff, maybe the "Miracle on Ice" rivalry between the U.S. and Soviet Union's men's ice hockey teams does it for you.

If you're more into the animal kingdom, perhaps it's crocodiles versus hippos. Or maybe it's the more far-fetched cult favorite movie "Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus."

And, if you're into retail, it's probably Costco versus Sam's Club.

All of these rivalries are epic, to be sure. But only one of them is consistently churning out limited-time or exclusive new finds for hungry customers to enjoy.

So choose your favorite rivalry wisely.

Sam's Club is rapidly growing

It might be said that Costco  (COST)  is the king of wholesale grocery.

There are about 600 Costco locations across the U.S. (and close to 900 globally). And Costco has a cult-like following.

Its Reddit page has nearly one million followers who are constantly posting about new products, bakery changes, or membership updates (that is, when they're not queuing in line for a $1.50 hot dog meal or stocking up on seven-pound chocolate cakes).

More Walmart:

By revenue, Costco's Kirkland is larger than Nike, Coca-Cola, and United Airlines.

So it's a pretty tough business to beat.

But Sam's Club is rapidly gaining share. The Walmart-owned grocery warehouse has been on a growth trajectory, specifically in the 2020s, now that many Americans are seeking deals on goods like groceries and paper products.

So Sam's Club has announced plans to remodel its 600-store fleet, replacing an old checkout system with new technology whereby customers can simply scan and pay for their items on their app.

It's also planning to open about 15 new stores annually.

Sam's Club gets an exclusive new treat

And now, Sam's Club is tempting customers with a new snack.

The warehouse grocer is offering all-new Kit Kat Frozen Dairy Dessert Bars, exclusive to Sam's Club.

A 15-count box of the frozen bars costs just under $10 and is described as "wafer-flavored center with fudge and a chocolatey coating with wafer bits."

"Let me say, rarely does an ice cream blow me away like these did! They’re sweet, crunchy, and have the perfect amount of sweetness. They may be dangerous at my house, because we could get the case very quickly!" one customer wrote on Instagram.

"Best ice cream bar I’ve ever had and it’s not even close!" another wrote.

"So excited to try these!" a third posted.

The bars are sold in the freezer section at Sam's Club nationwide.
