Royal Caribbean has tried to give its pubs a distinct menu built around gin, bourbon, and beer.

Royal Caribbean introduced a new menu in its British pubs in 2024.

The new menu offers a selection of gin-and-tonic offerings as well as some whiskey-based cocktails. There's also at least a cameo for rum and the best selection of beer on board any of the cruise line's bars.

Royal Caribbean gives its pubs similar names using a "Something & Something" structure. On Voyager of the Seas, the pub is the Pig & Whistle, a smaller-than-usual space that fills up easily when the resident guitarist performs.

On this sailing, we commandeered the Pig & Whistle to record some videos, and it was the spot where we worked during the day.

While Royal Caribbean's pubs generally have live music only at night, they are open all day. We found bartenders ready to take our order as early as 9 a.m., and the Pig & Whistle's location right on the Royal Promenade also made it easy to grab a coffee from Cafe Promenade.

In this video, Come Cruise With Me Executive Editor Dan Kline is joined by PostCard Travel Planning's Dennis Post to discuss their favorite drinks on the Royal Caribbean pub menu.

Buffalo Manhattan and Pirate in a Coconut Tree on Voyager of the Seas

Transcript:

Dan Kline: Good afternoon from Voyager of the Seas. I am Dan Kline, executive editor of Come Cruise With Me, that is comecruisewith.com. I am joined today by our travel agent partner, Dennis Post.

Dennis works with his wife, Amy, at PostCard Travel Planning. They handle all of our booking needs. They can get you some great prices, but we are coming to you today from pretty much my favorite place on cruise ships.

Editor's note: The pub on Voyager of the Seas is the Pig & Whistle. Cask & Clipper is the pub on Wonder of the Seas, which we sailed on a few weeks ago.

We are at the Cask & Clipper Pub. Pub, excuse me. All of the Royal Caribbean ships, with the exception of one, have a pub, and what I like about the pub is two things.

One, there's an acoustic guitarist who plays here every night, and universally, they're almost all spectacular. We got to see the wonderful Ellie Finnerty on Wonder of the Seas a couple weeks ago. Amazing.

The gentleman on here is really good, so live acoustic music, everything from, like, Springsteen to Taylor Swift to older stuff to country, but that's not why we're here. The other thing they have at Cask & Clipper and the pub is they have a sort of bespoke menu. A lot of Royal Caribbean bars just kind of have the pool menu.

This actually has a pub menu. It's whiskey-, gin- and beer-heavy, and this is where one of my favorite drinks on the ship is. This is a Buffalo Manhattan.

Now, there's nothing crazy about this. This is Buffalo Trace, a little bit of vermouth, more vermouth (if you're not me, but I'm not a giant fan of vermouth), and then Angostura bitters, so just a really simple, classic drink. Dennis probably would be drinking this, [as well], but I made him make a different choice.

So, Dennis, what are you drinking?

Post: I'm drinking the Pirate in a Coconut Tree, which [has] two different rums in it, coconut milk. You can see the rim of the glass is covered in coconut. A couple other things, a little simple syrup, coconut water, great, great drink, so cheers.

Kline: So, we're at the pub on Voyager of the Seas. There are lots of other things. If you're not a whiskey or gin person, this may not be the bar for you. There are not a lot of fruity drinks here.

We will be back all over the ship. I am Dan Kline. He is Dennis Post. Come cruise with me soon.
