Teaser: David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds”

The first U.S. teaser trailer has arrived for filmmaker David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds” which is finally set to hit theaters this Spring. The sci-fi horror feature, which premiered at Cannes last year, is set for an NYC/LA release April 18th followed by a nationwide one a week later.

In an eerie, deceptively placid near-future, a techno-entrepreneur named Karsh has developed a new software that will allow the bereaved to bear witness to the gradual decay of loved ones dead and buried in the earth.

While Karsh is still reeling from the loss of his wife from cancer – and falling into a peculiar sexual relationship with his wife’s sister – a spate of vandalized graves utilizing his ‘shroud’ technology begins to put his enterprise at risk, leading him to uncover a potentially vast conspiracy.

Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce and Sandrine Holt. Elizabeth Saunders, Jennifer Dale, and Eric Weinthal star.

Cronenberg wrote the film after his own wife’s death, giving this a personal sense of grief. It’s also potentially his final film if rumors are correct, though that remains unconfirmed for now.

Saïd Ben Saïd, Martin Katz, and Anthony Vaccarello produce David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds” and Janus Films will handle the movie’s U.S. distribution.
