Wild’s Ryan Hartman to have hearing for roughing Senators’ Tim Stutzle
Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman has been offered an in-person hearing for roughing Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle.
Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman will have an in-person hearing Monday for roughing Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle.
The in-person hearing, as opposed to a phone call, offers the NHL the option to hand out a suspension of more than five games.
Hartman was removed from Saturday’s game against the Senators after receiving a five-minute “attempt to injure” match penalty for an action against Stutzle.
After the puck was dropped while the two were lined up for a faceoff, Hartman brought Stutzle down and pushed his head into the ice. The whistle was blown immediately, and Hartman was taken out of the game.
Stutzle had to be examined by the Senators’ medical team after the play as he was bleeding from a cut above his eye. He remained in the game.
Because of the nature of the penalty, the league will automatically undergo an additional supplemental discipline review. Hartman has previously been suspended four times in his 11-year NHL career, with the last coming on April 1 after throwing his stick at officials.

Hartman was having a rough go at things on Saturday night. Earlier in the second period, he received a two-minute penalty for roughing, which was increased to four minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct due to embellishment after he thought he drew a penalty of his own.
The Senators were jawing at the enforcer all night, with Travis Hamonic egging him on from the bench. The fracas began after the Senators lost his stick and tried to go for a puck but got tangled up with the Wild forward. Hartman challenged Hamonic to a fight, but the offer was declined.
Then, while Hamonic tried to grab for his stick on the ice, he pushed Hartman out of the way, and they continued to shout at each other from their opposing benches.
Hartman ultimately finished the game with nine penalty minutes, three shots on goal and one hit in 8:25 of ice time.
The 30-year-old has seven goals and 10 assists in 47 games this season for the Wild.
