Stock Market Today: Stocks slide as Fed rally fades amid tariff risks
With the Fed decision behind it, markets are now likely to focus on the April 2 tariff deadline.

U.S. stocks moved lower in early Thursday trading, while Treasury bonds steadied and the dollar held onto recent gains, as investors parsed a surprisingly dovish Federal Reserve rate decision while cautiously eyeing changes to President Donald Trump's tariff plans over the coming weeks.

The S&P 500 was marked 32 points, or 0.56% in the opening minutes of trading, with the Nasdaq falling 108 points, or 0.71%
The Dow fell 182 points while the mid-cap Russell 2000 slipped 19 points, or 0.39%.
"There is still plenty of cash sitting on the sidelines, and there are plenty of buying opportunities across the markets, particularly in big cap tech, which was hit hard during this market correction," said Clark Bellin, president and chief investment officer at Bellwether Wealth in Lincoln, Nebraska.
"With the Fed meeting behind us, the next catalyst for markets will be policy headlines out of Washington, along with the Fed's preferred inflation measure, PCE, which is released at the end of this month," he added.
