Stock Market Today: Stocks extend furious May rally on tech strength

U.S. stocks edged higher in early Wednesday trading, while the dollar pared some of its recent gains, as investors looked to extend Wall Street's solid May rally, which has lifted the S&P 500 into positive territory for the year.

The S&P 500 was marked 13 points, or 0.24% higher in the opening minutes of trading, with the Nasdaq rising 70 points, or 0.63%, with Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices  (AMD)  and Tesla  (TSLA)  leading the early advance.

The Dow gained 108 points, tied to a boost from UnitedHealth Group's  (UNH)  rebound, while the Russell 2000 slipped 6 points, or 0.29%.

"What is remarkable about the market's rebound since the April lows is the leadership of the technology sector, which was not leading the market in the early months of 2025 before the tariff situation escalated," said Rick Gardner, chief investment officer at RGA Investments in Raleigh.

"We anticipate tech may continue to lead this market, as the sector stands to benefit from easing trade tensions and as investors once again resume their excitement over the promise of artificial intelligence," he added.
