Royal Caribbean adds tracking feature to its app

Cruisers like to talk about cruising. That includes what ships they have been on, where they have been, where they are going, and on what ships they plan to travel.

If you enter a loyalty lounge, or any space where frequent cruisers gather, that’s the conversation you hear.

Many cruisers do not remember exactly what ships they have been on. Since a lot of cruisers have been sailing for decades, that makes sense.

Some keep track by keeping their room key, while others have no record other than looking it up on the cruise line website.

Royal Caribbean, however, has made it much easier for cruisers on its namesake brand, and its Celebrity Cruises brand, to know what ships they have been on.

The cruise line has added a new piece of technology that allows passengers to see what ships they’ve been on in a very game-like fashion.

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises add badges

Dan Kline: Hello cruisers, I am Dan Kline, executive editor of the most-read cruise website in the world, ComeCruiseWithMe, ComeCruiseWith.com. Next to me is Dennis Post, co-owner of Postcard Travel Planning, our travel agent partner, and we are in Aruba.

And we actually, we just got an email from Royal Caribbean that reminded us of something.

Dennis, how do you keep track of which cruise ships you've been on? Do you have a list? Do you have a souvenir from every cruise ship? How do you keep track?

Dennis Post: We have some of those. Actually, this new app that they have is going to track the cruises for you.

There are also secondary apps you can get to do that.

Kline: So, Royal Caribbean added to its app.

It's not a new app. It's a new feature for their app, where every ship you've been on, you get a badge. So it shows, and it's kind of like a collect them all.

It becomes a little bit of a Royal Caribbean/Celebrity Pokemon.

And we're going to tell people, don't book a cruise just to get a virtual badge. Don't be like, I really wanted to go to the Bahamas, but now I'm going to the Panama Canal, and it's three times the money.

But it is really neat to go in and see. I've been on every Oasis-class ship. When we go on Star of the Seas in a few weeks, we'll have both been on every, but both, Icon-class ships.

So it's a neat little thing. And again, it's small, but it kind of just enhances the whole idea of like visiting the whole fleet, doing the whole thing. It makes you feel a little bit more part of the family.

Yeah. I am Dan Kline. He is Dennis Post.

Come cruise with us soon.
