Video: Sailboat crashes into Carnival Cruise Line ship

It's nearly impossible for major harm to happen to a massive cruise ship.

Weather can cause plates to break, bottles to smash, and other chaos, but today's cruise ships are built to handle unexpected bursts of bad weather. Even the incident last November on Explorer of the Seas was more scary than an actual risk.

Yes, a rogue weather system caused the ship to list, which did some damage to items and scared passengers, but the only person was actually hurt. Had that injury been avoided, Explorer could have continued on its transatlantic voyage without having to return to Spain (albeit down some plates, glasses, and liquor bottles).

Unexpected weather is one of the few things that can happen, which can actually damage a cruise ship. Aside from a captain making a mistake and crashing into a dock (an incredibly rare occurrence) most incidents are very minor even if they seem traumatic at the time.

Facebook video personalities Jayson Judson shared a recent incident where a sailboat crashed into the Carnival Jubilee.

Carnival Jubilee hit by sailboat

Transcript:

In something you don't see every day, a sailboat captain in Galveston, Texas must have not seen the 1,100-foot, 182,000-ton Carnival Jubilee as they ran into the cruise ship while the ship was docked in port.

What makes it even more odd is the U.S. Coast Guard wasn't there to intercept the sailboat, and a pilot boat helped tow the sailboat away from the Jubilee.

Thankfully, the sailboat and the captain are fine, and we have no answers as to where the Coast Guard was.

Dan's note: A similar incident happened in Nassau on Dec. 11 during a four-day Bahamas cruise, Allure of the Seas passengers watched as a yacht named Aurora drifted toward and collided with the port side of their ship.

"In videos posted on YouTube and Facebook, loud bangs can be heard as the yacht strikes Allure of the Seas and scrapes along its port side. The yacht’s antenna can be seen falling from the top of the vessel as it makes contact with one of the cruise ship’s lifeboats, but the extent of the damage is unclear," Alisha dos Santos wrote.
