U.S. retail sales powered higher last month, as consumers rushed to buy big-ticket items ahead of the tariff hit expected from President Donald Trump's trade policies.
Headline sales rose 1.4% last month to $734.9 billion, the Commerce Department said Wednesday, just ahead of Wall Street's consensus forecast of a 1.3% gain and a solid rebound from the February reading of 0.2%.
