Premier League veteran Willian in talks to make shock return to former club
No one saw this coming!
Veteran playmaker Willian is in talks to re-join Fulham, just six months after leaving the Cottagers.
The 36-year-old had spells in the Premier League with Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham, most significantly with the Blues where he won two Premier League titles.
The Brazilian made 339 appearances for Chelsea, also lifting the FA Cup and Europa League trophy during his time at Stamford Bridge.
His stint at Arsenal was forgettable but was good for Fulham, before leaving for Olympiakos last summer.
Willian’s time in Greece did not go to plan, leaving the club in December after making just 11 appearances.
However, that has not put off one of his former clubs, with Sky Sports reporting that talks are ongoing to bring him back to Craven Cottage.
As the Brazil international is a free agent the deal does not need to be completed before Monday night’s transfer deadline, but the move is close to being completed.
The veteran turns 37 in August and has a wealth of experience across Europe, in his home country and at international level.
Willian has 70 caps for Brazil, winning the Copa America in 2019, and outside of the Premier League he has turned out for Corinthians, Shakhtar Donetsk, Anzhi Makhachkala and Corinthians
He won the Ukrainian Premier League four times with Shakhtar before moving to Russia and then Chelsea in 2013.
It has been an incredibly quiet transfer window for Fulham so far, with no significant arrivals or departures from Marco Silva’s squad.
The Cottagers have won two of their last three games, beating Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday to climb back up to ninth in the Premier League table.
