Min Woo Lee Joins Oakley as an Official Ambassador
For many a brand the ultimate compliment an athlete can give is to wear its products without a formal deal. This tends to happen a lot for Oakley given its 50 years experience developing the leading technology in eyewear. But now Min Woo Lee, the 26-year-old golfer from Australia whose effervescent personality and booming tee shots have established him as one of the leading young stars in the game, is officially an Oakley ambassador. The moment was crowned this afternoon at TPC Scottsdale where Lee teed off at the famous 16th hole wearing Sphaera Slash model sunglasses. The Chef, as he's often referred to on social media, joins an Oakley roster of golfers highlighted by J.R. Smith and Paris Hilinski. It's all part of an effort to reestablish the Oakley as a leader in the golf category coinciding with the brand's 50th anniversary.“Min Woo Lee represents everything this new era of golf is about – confidence, individuality and an unshakable drive to push boundaries to redefine what’s possible on the course,” said Corey Hill, Oakley's head of global sports marketing. Lee, meanwhile, commented that "I’ve always admired how the brand challenges convention with innovation and style, and that mentality resonates with how I approach the game."And although Lee's deal is exclusive to eyewear (he'll continue wearing Lululemon apparel), Oakley also has a robust selection of golf polos, pants and hats that they previewed at last month's PGA Show.
