The Trump administration purportedly agreed to accept a gift of a super luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from Qatar’s royal family — a gift that ABC News reports will be used as the new Air Force One during Trump’s second term in office. Many people and politicians across the United States are up in arms about the decision. Several question the legitimacy of the gift and argue that our government should not be using any gift planes without knowing whether or not the other country (in this case, Qatar) had messed with it in any way. However, the real issue around accepting the plane seems to be that this is in direct violation of the Emoluments Clause, a provision in Article I, Section 9, Paragraph 8 of the U.S. Constitution that states that “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.” Although the Trump administration has argued that its acceptance of the gift falls within legal boundaries, critics argue that this is once again another brazen act of corruption by the president. (Here are the Trump administration’s most and least popular policies so far.)
Donald Trump stands as one of the most divisive presidents in U.S. history. After his first 100 days in office, around 60% of Republicans still strongly support the administration — but this is a stark contrast to many other demographic groups nationwide. Here, 24/7 Wall St. explored which American demographics were most likely to disapprove of the Trump administration. To do so, we used several sources, including YouGov, Brookings, several surveys from Pew Research Center, and data collected from a May 2-4, 2025 survey of 2,263 registered American voters performed by Morning Consult — for the last source, the margin of error is +/-2 percentage points. We aggregated and sorted this data to identify the groups least likely to approve of Trump and what he has done so far as president.
This previously published article was updated in May 2025 to reflect updated demographic data based on newly run surveys.
Why It Matters Now
In his first 100 days in office, Donald Trump has done more to reshape the federal government than any president in recent history, but is this necessarily a good thing? Trump has recently stated that he would drop prices on pharmaceutical drugs by up to 59%, making them more accessible for families in need — undoubtedly a positive for the many people across the country who lack access to adequate care. At the same time, the dismantling of rights for women and people of color, as well as federal funding rollbacks and a weakening of diplomatic relations with allies like Canada, have many people worried. These Americans disproportionately fit into several demographic groups. By understanding who is unhappy with the administration, you can better link what the adminstration is doing to its direct human effects — but also see which groups might be more likely to stoke the blue wave during the midterms.
