Leica today announced the Lux Grip, a MagSafe-compatible camera accessory for the iPhones. This camera grip accessory helps amateur photographers achieve a more precise and tactile photography experience. The device offers physical camera controls right on your grip. It’s worth mentioning that the Leica Lux grip camera accessory for iPhones has modes inspired by the classic Leica cameras.
The Lux Grip aims to offer the tactile experience of a traditional Leica camera
Leica offers high-end hand-held cameras and lenses. It also provides optics technology for smartphones and other devices. The Lux Grip is the company’s first dedicated photography product for the iPhone. It connects to the compatible devices using MagSafe. It is capable of providing a Leica camera-like photography experience in both portrait and landscape.
Furthermore, the Lux Grip aims to provide the tactile experience of a traditional Leica camera on an iPhone. It offers a mechanical two-stage precise shutter button. There’s a control dial on board the accessory, apart from two other function buttons that users can customize as per their usage.
The Lux Grip’s two-stage shutter button allows photographers to half-press to focus before fully pressing to capture a photo. You can assign the control button to adjust key imaging options like zoom, shutter speed, aperture, or exposure compensation. Users can assign the accessory’s customizable buttons to frequently used options within the Leica Lux app.
Integration with the Leica Lux app and a built-in battery
Furthermore, the Leica Lux Grip integrates with the Leica Lux camera app via Bluetooth. Notably, unlike the regular Apple camera app, Leica provides advanced manual controls, lens simulations, and color science based on Leica’s imaging heritage. Its latest update also adds more Leica lens simulations, apart from a new black-and-white preset. This update is part of the ongoing celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the company.
The Leica Lux Grip camera accessory also has a built-in battery, which provides up to 1,000 shots. A USB Type-C cable fully charges it in around two hours. The accessory utilizes aluminum as the build material and tips the scale at 130 grams. Lastly, Leica has also provided a tripod thread into the base of the accessory.
Leica is offering the Lux Grip camera accessory for $329. You can get a leather case with an AirTag holder for it by paying $50. Leica is offering the Lux app for free, but you will need to pay $6.99/month to access the premium features. Leica will offer a free 12-month subscription for the Pro version of the Lux app if you link your grip accessory with your Leica account.
