Demi Moore has opened up about her relationship with former husband Bruce Willis, saying that the pair remain close.
Moore, who is nominated for an Oscar for 2024 horror film The Substance, spoke to Variety about the Die Hard actor, to whom she was married from 1987 to 2000. The pair appeared together in the 1991 film Mortal Thoughts and were one of the most prominent celebrity couples of the ‘90s. They share three children: daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah Willis.
“We will always be a family, just in a different form” she said of the bond. “For me, there was never a question. I show up because that’s what you do for the people you love”. She added that she hoped their post-divorce friendship would be an example to others going through a similar journey.
“I hope it’s encouraging for others to see that there’s a different way to do things” she said. “There is life after divorce. There is a way to co-parent with love”.
The star is one of the favourites to win Best Actress at the Academy Awards, which take place on March 2 in Los Angeles. “This whole journey has just been a shock and awe,” she says of the experience. “I had no expectations, so everything has been a surprise, and honestly, that’s a really beautiful place to be sitting in”.
She also admitted that she thought about moving on from acting prior to getting the opportunity to be in the film. “I had hit a low point where I didn’t feel like I was expanding like I wasn’t being challenged”.
“And I thought, maybe the universe is telling me I need to do something else. But then The Substance came along, and I thought, ‘Okay, this I can dive into. This is something I can bring all of myself to.’”
In January, Demi Moore won a Golden Globe for her performance in the film, delivering an acceptance speech that inspired many online. Elsewhere, her Substance co-star Margaret Qualley discussed how the prosthetics for the film damaged her skin for over a year.
