Carnival Cruise Line offers stern message on vaping, smoking

The question of whether vaping should be treated the same as smoking in public places is a divisive one.

Although some people argue that vaping should be allowed in designated smoke-free areas because it’s technically not the same as smoking, others insist that it should be banned from these areas because vaping also releases harmful chemicals into the air.

Carnival Cruise Line only permits smoking in designated areas on board its ships, but whether the same rules apply to vaping is often a cause for debate among its passengers. However, just like smoking, Carnival has clear rules on vaping that its brand ambassador, John Heald, wants to make sure passengers understand.

Heald addressed cruise ship vaping concerns, as well the cruise line’s homeport expansion plans in Baltimore and his next fan cruises, in a recent video update for passengers shared on his popular Facebook page.

Carnival Cruise Line plans to send a bigger ship to Baltimore

Transcript:

John Heald: Good morning, good afternoon, and I won't forget to say good evening because on my last three-minute video, I forgot to say good evening and I got a lot of people from Australia and New Zealand and Cleveland, Ohio saying you forgot us. Not today.

This is Monday morning and let's just go through a couple of very quick things because I do want to try and keep it under three minutes.

Let's start with Baltimore. So many people wrote to me last week asking what Conquest class ship are we getting? And are we keeping the Carnival Pride as well? And the answer to those two questions is: please stand by and we will let you know as soon as we can.

When you ask me that, I don't know. I know there's a lot of speculation going around, but I promise the Beards will let me know and we will communicate that with you as we normally do. So, it's just very exciting for us that we can give Baltimore a bigger ship and we'll let you know everything that's going to be happening there.

Carnival brand ambassador shares update on fan cruises

Now, I'll also be hosting an extra cruise on the Carnival Magic in November and that's because Carnival Magic changed her dry dock schedule. And I will let you know as soon as we hear from Chris and the communications team about everything that's happening with that. So please don't ask me. I don't know the answer, but hopefully we will have some news on that this week.

But hundreds of you have booked a cruise with me in November on the Carnival Magic and I do hope we'll see you there. It's my intention to make it a really fun cruise — bring a couple of special guest stars along with me and try and make it as much fun as I possibly can.

Wow, we've got so much to look forward to in the coming months — Celebration Key, of course, and we also have, I'm sure along the way, more fabulous news.

Here is today's, Monday's, letter of the day. Cheers! Sorry got to wet the whistle.

So, I'm heading for…I've got 40 seconds left. I just wanted to read this one because there's still maybe some confusion. So, here it is.

Carnival Cruise Line makes cruise ship vaping rules very clear

It says: My grandson, who is an adult, is going with us next month on his first cruise we are both Platinum, but he has never cruised before. He does vape at home, and he is also a member of the Missouri National Guard, where he is allowed to vape.

I'm just trying to find out why Carnival pushes vapers outside. Why does he need to vape in smoking areas? He's not required to do this at home when on duty or in his daytime job. Vaping is not smoking.

Well, yes, it is, and a lot of people, when that was posted, wrote under that comment saying that they agree and that they vape and they should not be put outside within the regular allowed smoking areas.

Vaping is definitely smoking; the same rules apply.

More Carnival cruise news:

I know some people get very sneaky and go, you know, try not to let the smoke come out like a new pope has just been elected. But let me be very clear and say that if you vape, we respect that, but you must please respect the rules and only vape in the regular smoking areas.

You're not allowed to vape in your rooms. You're not allowed to vape anywhere on the ship except in the designated smoking areas, and we thank you so very, very much for that.

Vaping is a very strange thing to me. How do I put this? You walk past a group of big tough men — big muscles and tattoos of Fun Ship Freddy on their arm — you walk past them, and they're all vaping, and these big tough men smell of strawberry muffins.
