Carnival Cruise Line answers key question on underwear (really)

Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald has what might be described as a cheeky sense of humor. He makes jokes that are a bit blue, but he uses terms that are over-the-top British, which somehow makes everything seem PG.

He has to address things like whether topless sunbathing is allowed and often fields questions about swingers onboard as well as other adult topics. He's not shy about making fun of his own physique, and he often uses the term "rumpy pumpy" to discuss passengers having sex on his cruise line (or elsewhere).

Heald comes off a bit like a cool uncle who does not get embarrassed easily. That's a perfect demeanor for his role because he has to field questions that could make someone uncomfortable.

In a recent exchange on his popular Facebook page, Heald fielded a question about a passenger's "delicates," and he answered it with his trademark charm and humor.

Carnival asked about its laundry service

Carnival offers self-serve laundry on its ships. It also has a service where guests can fill a mesh bag and the cruise line will wash those items.

Heald recently answered a question about that service.

"John, can you tell me about the laundry please? If I place my delicates in a mesh bag that I bring onboard, will the laundry count it as one item? I hate to give my delicates to the Jubilee cruise laundry without it. I do not want to have my laundry mixed with others. I have Diamond-status laundry privileges now, so I would like to know how this works," she wrote.

Heald had some fun with the question before answering it.

"Thank you and I am not sure where to start. Perhaps with the fact that I love the word 'delicates,' which I am thinking is used to describe bras and underpants? I should also mention that we do not, in fact, have a special washing machine for Diamond guest’s laundry. Sorry, but your Victoria’s Secret and Calvin Kleins are in the same washing machine as Blue card holders Fruit of the Looms and Big Brenda’s Breast Slings," he shared.

The Brand Ambassador did eventually answer the question.

"Anyway, each person’s laundry is washed in their own mesh bag so they are not actually ummmm, touching. This means there is no need to bring your own mesh bag," he added.

Heald also shared his thoughts on Carnival's laundry.

"Our ship’s laundries do a brilliant job, and the wash and fold bag is an excellent value for money. It will be returned, delicates and all, the next day with a lovely note from the laundry manager, and I thank them all for the wonderful job they do," he wrote.

Carnival passengers share their laundry thoughts

Todd Spencer seemed surprised by the original question.

"I’m amazed at the thought that while going through the 'laundry' your intimates might randomly touch another and become contaminated 'while being cleaned.' Sounds like a mental issue at best. Sent our unmentionables out for cleaning many times. Frankly, I’m surprised at times by how bright my whites are," he shared.

Most passengers seem to appreciate the laundry service.

"We use the laundry service for items that can withstand the hot water and dryers, and we LOVE it. They arrive back to use nicely folded," Kathleen Henry posted.

Christine Mack had some advice for the original poster.

"Personally, I would not give any of my expensive 'delicates' to the valet. They’re going to get tossed in the big hot washer with the rest of your clothes and into the big hot dryer. I would suggest bringing a small bottle of detergent and washing your delicates in the sink or packing enough that you can wash them at home," she wrote.
