As Tariffs Threaten Gun Prices, These 10 Pistols Lead U.S. Sales

The Firearm Industry Trade Association (NSSF) recently wrote in a note to its members, “NSSF is concerned that the growing ‘trade war’ will result in increased manufacturing costs, which could adversely impact profitability and economic growth for our industry.” The note continued, “We are also concerned that prices will increase at the wholesale and retail level for both imported and domestically manufactured firearms, ammunition, and related products.”

President Trump has been historically a strong supporter of gun rights, with the gun industry usually in agreement with his policies. The current tariffs and possible trade war, however, has gunmakers and gun enthusiasts concerned over rising costs. Although many gun manufacturers are U.S.-based, they still rely on raw materials and parts that are imported from other countries. With a rapidly changing tariff policy, gunmakers are working to understand what the increased taxes on foreign goods will mean for the industry.

At 24/7 Wall St., we took a deep dive into finding out which American companies make the best-selling pistols. Handguns or pistols are the most commonly owned firearms, with 72% of American gun owners reporting they own either a handgun or a pistol. If you are in the market for a new firearm, you may want to buy now, before tariffs affect the incoming products. (Also see firearms used by U.S. federal agents.)

24/7 Wall St. identified the 10 best-selling pistols in the U.S. by reviewing data from Gun Genius, which analyzed sales data from the online firearm marketplace GunBroker.com. We ranked guns on sales volume in the 2024 calendar year, however, exact sales figures were not available. We added data on the approximate base price for each make and model, which we obtained from online retailers, including GunBroker. Even though handguns can be either revolvers or semi-automatic pistols, each of the 10 firearms on this list are pistols. These 10 pistols are manufactured by seven brands, including Glock, Ruger, and Sig Sauer, companies that each have two models on this list. While one pistol on this list is chambered for .22 caliber ammunition, each of the remaining models can be, or are exclusively, chambered for 9mm ammunition.
