So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
NELL SMITH – “ANXIOUS”
Nell Smith was a childhood prodigy who collaborated with The Flaming Lips on a Nick Cave covers album at 13 years old and later won over Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde, who signed Nell to his label Bella Union for the release of her debut album, which was recorded with Jack and Lily Wolter of Penelope Isles. Nell’s life was tragically cut short this past fall when she died in a car accident at just 17 years old, and now her album is posthumously coming out. Titled Anxious, it arrives on April 11 via Bella Union, and the title track is a lovely indie pop song that you can hear now.

COLD SPECKS – “LINGERING GHOSTS”
Cold Specks announced her fourth LP and first album in seven years, Light for the Midnight, due out on April 9 via Mute. She’s also shared the emotional “Lingering Ghosts,” which was co-written with Ben Christophers and also features Adrian Utley, Ali Chant, Seb Rochford, and Dan Moore.
—
DARKSIDE – “ARE YOU TIRED? (KEEP ON SINGING)”
DARKSIDE’s new album Nothing is out in just a couple weeks and here’s another early taste. “Are You Tired? (Keep on Singing)” is slow and methodical with lots of creepy atmosphere.
—
DEB NEVER – “THIS ALIVE”
Deb Never is preparing to release her debut album this year, and ahead of that she’s shared “This Alive,” a melodic bedroom pop track which follows last year’s “Not in Love.”
—
MEKONS – “FALLEN LEAVES” & “WAR ECONOMY”
Mekons have shared two more songs from their upcoming album Horror. Sally Timms says the video for “Fallen Leaves” is their “homage to Antonioni’s L’Eclisse, made easy due to Rico’s remarkable resemblance to the young Alain Delon and mine to an aging blown-out Monica Vitti. It’s an art house gamble.” Horror’s out April 4 via Fire.
—
ICHIKO AOBA – “SONAR”
Ichiko Aoba’s new album Luminescent Creatures arrives later this month, and the latest single is the delicate, haunting “SONAR.”
—
PANDA BEAR – “ENDS MEET”
“Ends Meet” is the new single from Panda Bear’s upcoming album Sinister Grift and features contributions from his Animal Collective bandmates Avey Tare and Geologist plus backing vocals by Maria Reis and Spirit of the Beehive’s Rivka Ravede. This is the poppiest single from the LP yet.
—
THE OPHELIAS – “CUMULONIMBUS”
The Ophelias announced a new album, Spring Grove, due out on April 4 via Get Better Records. It was produced by Julien Baker, and the lead single is lush indie rock track “Cumulonimbus.”
—
DEAN WAREHAM – “THAT’S THE PRICE OF LOVING ME”
Dean Wareham’s new solo album That’s the Price of Loving Me, which reunites him with producer Kramer for the first time since Galaxie 500, is out March 28 and here’s the loungey title track. Says Dean, “‘That’s the Price of Loving Me’ is about our life on the road but also a dream I had about our tour manager and dear friend Kiko, who passed away a couple years ago; he drove us around Europe in his Mercedes Sprinter with red zebra upholstery.”
—
SERPENTWITHFEET – “WANDERER”
serpentwithfeet’s sequel to/deluxe edition of last year’s GRIP is out later this month, and he’s shared a second single from it, atmospheric art rock track “Wanderer,” which he says is “about a man who lives in isolation and his new passionate paramour.”
—
FROG EYES – “TELEVISION, A GHOST IN MY HEAD”
Frog Eyes’ new album The Open Up is out March 7 and here’s another weirdo ripper from it.
—
RARE DM – “THE RING”
Erin Hoagg is back with a new Rare DM track, “The Ring,” which is a nice bit of darkwave dancepop. “The Ring is a journey into the chaos you created by trying to make things better,” Hoagg says. “It is about a misunderstanding – did you make it worse by addressing it in the first place? You tried to fix it and now it’s even more messed up. Who is the real enemy now? Did you ‘fuck around and find out’?”
—
DAVID J (BAUHAUS / LOVE & ROCKETS) – “MY FUNNY VALENTINE”
Bauhaus and Love and Rockets bassist David J has shared his version of romantic standard “My Funny Valentine,” putting a distinct gothy spin on it, making it kinda the sonic equivalent to black roses.
—
BAMBARA – “LETTERS FROM SING SING”
“Letters from Sing Sing” is revved up and anthemic with some very ’80s-style orchestra hit samples in the chorus. Not your usual Bambara song in some ways, though Reid Bateh’s impassioned vocals remain at the heart of things. Barbara’s new album Birthmarks is out March 12.
—
