Scheffler’s attempt at clinching a three-peat at the Phoenix Open fell just short last year. Following his back-to-backs wins, the reigning Masters champion had to settle for T3 in Arizona last February, ending three shots behind champion Taylor. He said at the time: “I’m a bit frustrated. I didn’t really finish the way I wanted to, but I gave myself a good chance this week. “Played a lot of solid golf, did a lot of good things. “Obviously, I’m a little bit frustrated I think with how I finished, but outside of that I gave myself a good chance, just wasn’t able to close.” That ‘solid golf’ did, of course, prove to be a springboard for Scheffler to complete a stunning season. He won seven top-class events including his second major title as well as The Players Championship and the Fedex Cup. Scheffler’s 2025 season has been delayed due to surgery following a freak cooking accident on Christmas Day. He returned to action last weekend by claiming an admirable T9 in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and now he’ll be looking for victory again in Phoenix.
