Tiger Woods takes on Rory McIlroy in the most anticipated match of TGL season

This is set to be the most anticipated match in the early part of the first TGL season.

It’s time for Tiger versus Rory.

Two of the three co-founders of TGL are set to tee it up against each other Monday, with Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC looking to bounce back after an ugly 12-1 loss in their TGL opener, while Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf is making its TGL debut.

Over the last three decades, it’s rare that two titans of golf have been elevated to first-name-only knowledge by fans and fellow players alike – but Tiger and Rory are it.

Here’s everything else you need to know about the fourth match of the TGL season.

THE MATCH

Boston Common Golf: Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott (sitting: Hideki Matsuyama) vs. Jupiter Links GC: Tiger Woods, Tom Kim, Kevin Kisner (sitting: Max Homa)

• Boston Common Golf makes its TGL debut

• Jupiter Links lost its opening TGL match 12-1 versus Los Angeles Golf Club

• Jupiter Links (95) and Boston Common (58) rank first and second in TGL in total PGA Tour victories

• Boston Common Golf is the oldest team in TGL, with an average age of nearly 38 years old but it has an average Official World Golf Ranking of 10 – the best in TGL

• Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have been grouped together in 28 stroke-play rounds on the PGA Tour, with McIlroy holding a 13-12-3 advantage over Woods

• Woods, McIlroy, and long-time television executive Mike McCarley are the co-founders of TGL

• Watch for the importance of the Hammer once again this week. In Jupiter Links’ opening match, six hammers were thrown and Jupiter Links lost six total points on those six hammers

PLAYER NOTES

Tiger Woods and Kevin Kisner return to Jupiter Links after a tough opening match. Jupiter Links struggled with its ball striking in the opener, hitting only four of 15 greens. It also only hit 50 percent of its fairways… Kisner has played once on the PGA Tour so far this season, missing the cut at The American Express… Tom Kim makes his TGL debut for Jupiter Links. Kim has three PGA Tour victories to his name. He’s played twice on the PGA Tour so far this season, finishing T65 at the Sony Open and missing the cut at The American Express. Kim has been an emotional spark plug for the International Team at the last two Presidents Cup competitions.

Rory McIlroy and the Boston Common squad are the final team to debut in TGL. McIlroy has notched two tremendous results in back-to-back DP World Tour events in the Middle East. He closed out 2024 winning the DP World Tour Championship and then opened 2025 with a T4 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic… Keegan Bradley, the American Ryder Cup captain for this fall in New York, has had as steady of an opening to the 2025 campaign as he could have asked for. He finished T15 at The Sentry, T6 at the Sony Open, and then Sunday finished T15 at the Farmers Insurance Open. He secured the winning point for Team USA at the Presidents Cup in September… Adam Scott has been a stalwart at the Presidents Cup for the International side, with the most appearances (11), matches played (54), and points won (23) in team history. He opened his 2025 PGA Tour campaign with a T15 at The Sentry.

SCORING EXPLANATION VIA TGL

Modern Match Play

• Each hole has a value of 1 point and the team with the fewest shots on a hole wins the point.

• Ties are worth 0 points and there are no carryovers

• The Hammer – Each hole is worth 1 point unless a team throws the Hammer. This game-changer increases the value of a hole by 1 point when used, giving teams the opportunity to press home an advantage or put their opponents under added pressure. It changes possession each time it’s used

• The team with the most points wins the match

• Each match will be played until all 15 holes are completed, even if the match outcome has been decided. A team’s total number of holes won will be used as a tiebreaker in the SoFi Cup Standings at the end of the regular season.

Format/Sessions

Sessions

• Within a match there will be two sessions played in two different formats

• Triples – 9 holes – Three players per team competing in an alternate-shot format.

• Singles– 6 holes– One-on-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes during the session.

• Overtime – If the match is tied after 15 holes, the teams will play a best-of-three, closest-to-the-pin competition to decide the winner. This will be similar to penalty kicks in soccer.

• The hole location and orientation of the green will remain unchanged from the final/15th hole of the match.

• The shot distance will be between 25-50 yds and decided pre-match by our match official. All players will play from the same spot. The ball must finish on the putting surface to be eligible.

SoFi Cup Standings

Similar to the NHL, TGL presented by SoFi will use a points-based system for the SoFi Cup Standings.

For each match, teams can be awarded up to 2 points towards their regular-season total based on the following:

• Win in regulation = 2 points

• Win in overtime = 2 points

• Loss in overtime = 1 point

• Loss in regulation = 0 points
