The Toxic Avenger will mop up theaters in time for Labor Day

It may have taken a while, but now things are really moving for Peter Dinklage, Macon Blair, and the rest of the Toxic Avenger crew. After spending more than a year trying to secure a distributor, Blair’s take on the superhero spoof teamed with Cineverse, the distributor behind the Terrifier films, earlier this month. Today, Deadline reports that the film will hit theaters on August 29, in time for Labor Day weekend. It will be an “unrated wide release.”

The trade reports that the weekend was originally set to belong to the next Insidious installment (not that one) but that has been pushed back to 2026. Darren Aronofsky’s latest feature, Caught Stealing starring Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, and Regina King, also opens the same day, which The Hollywood Reporter notes was also a result of Insidious’ shift. It seems no one wants to open opposite the Lipstick Face Demon.

The fact that the remake of the Troma is classic is not only getting a release, but a wide one, is a major win for the team, which also includes cast members Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, and Elijah Wood. “It’s so cool that folks will have the chance to see this in theaters, it’s a fun rowdy movie you wanna see with a crowd,” Blair said earlier this month. “Mutant hero smashes bad guys with a mop: perfect entertainment for the whole family!”
