‘The Old Guard 2’ – Netflix Releasing Action Sequel in July 2025

Netflix has spent all morning previewing their 2025 slate of originals, and we’ve learned that the five-years-later sequel The Old Guard 2 is headed to streaming this summer.

The Old Guard 2 premieres on Netflix on July 2, 2025. 

Charlize Theron will be back in The Old Guard 2, with Uma Thurman (Kill Bill) and Henry Golding (Snake Eyes) joining a cast that also includes KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Victoria Mahoney is taking over the reins as director of the sequel.

Based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, director Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s The Old Guard originally debuted on Netflix on July 10th, 2020.

Theron stars as a warrior named Andy, leader of a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die who have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries.

But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.

In this year’s sequel, “Andromache of Scythia and her band of soldiers are back in this second story chronicling the battles and burdens of their dubious immortality. Nile’s addition to the team has given them new purpose and new direction, but when you’ve got 6,000 years of history at your back, the past is always ready to return—with a vengeance.”

The first film’s director, Gina Prince-Bythewood, is staying on board as producer.
