Soothe your innie child with an actual ebook of Severance's The You You Are

As the second season of Severance ticks along, raising all sorts of new questions as it goes—What is the Board? What's going to happen to Mark's poor brain next? What is still up with the fucking goats?—Apple's marketing team is working overtime to keep up with the buzz around the Ben Stiller-produced series. This weekend, they released a doozy: A real-world (if truncated) ebook version of severed floor hit The You You Are, written by one Dr. Ricken Lazlo Hale, PhD, a.k.a. Mark's dopey brother-in-law.

Clocking in at 39 pages, divided into chapters like "A Coitus Among Us" and "Wounds Unhealed," the book is filled with Ricken's flavor of goofball "wisdom," i.e., a form of self-help effective only on the literally damaged brains of people who can no longer remember even one other single work of philosophical musing. And, hey, if you want to just listen to the soothing tones of the you that you is instead of reading them, you can also get the book in hour-long audiobook form, narrated by Ricken actor Michael Chernus.

Yes, it's blatant marketing—but as with lots of the tricks Apple has pulled for the show's second season, at least it's creatively blatant marketing, with a lot of little jokes, and even some references to Severance lore. (Notably, Ricken explains that the book is as short as it is because "events beyond my control have led to a brief delay as I liaise with several corporate parties as to precisely where and in what form the book should be released," presumably a reference to the events of the show's most recent episode, where the sinister Lumon company approached him about making a version of the book specifically designed for Innies to read.)
