Shane Lowry criticised by commentator as marshall hit on shoulder after fierce drive

Broadcaster Andrew Coltart believes Shane Lowry could’ve done more to prevent a marshall from being on the end of a fierce drive from the Irishman. The marshall was inadvertently struck on the shoulder after Lowry fired from the tee on the 15th at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Coltart believes Lowry could’ve shouted ‘fore!’ after his wayward shotGetty It was fortunately confirmed that the marshall hadn’t sustained any serious injury despite being felled when the ball connected with his shoulder. And Lowry has been told he should’ve given the marshall appropriate warning following his wayward shot. “Didn’t hear him shout ‘fore’. We need to be hearing players shout ‘fore’,” Coltart said on commentary for Sky Sports. Going into the final round on Sunday, Lowry, along with Rory McIlroy, was one shot behind overnight leader Sepp Straka. But McIlroy has gone top of the leaderboard in California going into the final two holes of the day on -21. Meanwhile, Lowry is three shots behind going after the 16th. The pair are known to be firm friends so this friendship has been put to the test as they battle it out in one of the first signature events of the PGA Tour in 2025. But their actions on Saturday night firmly suggest that it’s going to take more than competition at Pebble Beach will put the friendship on hold. Whilst Lowry was conducting a TV interview, McIlroy was seen walking past the media tent and took the opportunity to say hello. “Partner!” he shouted behind the cameras before giving two thumbs up and then quickly embracing him.
