Record breaker: Abu Dhabi Airports passenger numbers rocket +28.1% in 2024 to over 29 million

UAE. Abu Dhabi Airports – operator of the emirate’s five commercial airports, including Zayed International – has announced record-breaking passenger results for 2024. Some 29.4 million passengers were served across the aviation hubs, a +28.1 per cent increase against the 22.9 million recorded in 2023.

The airports company said the performance was driven by network expansion, strategic partnerships and “a commitment to delivering a world-class passenger experience”.

Zayed International Airport – where 28 retail outlets opened during 2024, taking the total to 157 – served as the primary catalyst for the impressive growth. The airport connected travellers to an expanded network of more than 125 destinations, with 29 new routes launched during 2024.

The airport welcomed eight new airlines to its network, including British Airways, Air Astana, Aegean Airlines, US Bangla Airlines, Akasa Air, Hainan Airlines, Flynas and Turkmenistan Airlines.

The expanded connectivity is further reflected by a +10% increase in aircraft movements across the five airports, rising to 249,747 in 2024.

Abu Dhabi Airports noted this highlights a significant demand from key markets such as the UK, India, Qatar and Egypt.

Abu Dhabi Airports Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Elena Sorlini commented: “2024 was a highly successful year for Abu Dhabi Airports, marked by record-breaking passenger traffic, significant cargo growth, and the successful completion of key infrastructure projects.

“These achievements highlight our commitment to delivering a world-class travel experience and strengthening Abu Dhabis position as a leading global aviation hub.

“We are deeply grateful for the support of our stakeholders and airline partners, this strong performance positions us for continued progress and reinforces our contribution to Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification.” ✈
