Elliot Page (“The Umbrella Academy”) and John Leguizamo (“Ice Age”) are the latest to join the cast of filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s $250 million ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” at Universal Pictures.
The specifics of their roles are unknown at this time. Page worked with Nolan previously on 2011’s “Inception” while this marks Leguizamo’s first time with the helmer.
They join a cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal.
The feature is an adaptation of the epic Greek poem written by Homer in 8th Century BCE. A follow-up to “The Iliad” (adapted in 2004’s “Troy”), the story recounts the ten-year journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War.
He and his crew encounter many perils, ranging from a cyclops to the multi-headed monster Scylla, whirlpool-generating Charybdis, the sorceress Circe, the nymph Calypso and the vengeful god of the sea Poseidon.
Meanwhile, Odysseus’s wife and grown son must contend with aggressive suitors that have designs on the throne.
The project will shoot throughout the first half of this year in Sicily, the UK and Morocco using brand-new IMAX film technology. A planned theatrical release will take place on July 17th 2026.
