Netflix has revealed that it is set to reboot iconic 1970s NBC historical drama series “Little House on the Prairie”.
Rebecca Sonnenshine (“The Boys,” “Vampire Diaries”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer the series dubbed a ‘reimagining’ of the original 1930s book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studios are producing the new version which follows Charles, his wife Caroline and their daughters Laura and Mary as they leave Wisconsin to settle in Independence, Kansas. There will also be Osage characters.
Sonnenshine says in a statement: “I fell deeply in love with these books when I was five years old. They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new global audience with Netflix.”
Joy Gorman Wettels, Dana Fox, Susanna Fogel and Trip Friendly will executive produce. The original series, led by Michael Landon, has undergone a resurgence lately on the streaming service Peacock, where the series racked up 13.3 billion minutes of viewing time.
