Meet the Firearm Manufacturers Dominating the American Rifle Market

Although it varies by state, spring turkey hunting season is just beginning in many parts of the country. Wild turkeys may be considered small game, but these big birds can weigh up to 25 pounds, providing a lot of food for a family. Though hunting for wild turkeys can occur in fall, it’s generally considered a spring activity, allowed in April and May. (Is hunting popular in your state? Check out the state with the most hunters.)

While most hunters commonly use shotguns for turkey hunting, some states do allow rifles. And in some states, it’s legal to hunt wild turkey using a rifle in the spring, but not in the fall. You’ll have to check your state, as laws can vary. 24/7 Wall St. took a deep dive to find out which companies are making the best-selling America-made rifles.

With so many rifles on the market, how can you determine which companies you should buy from? 24/7 Wall St. is here to help. Using data from the ATF, 24/7 Wall St. identified the 33 companies making the best-selling American-made rifles. We reviewed manufacturing figures for thousands of federally licensed gunmakers in the United States and ranked them on total rifle production in 2022.

(This article was updated on April 2, 2025, to reflect the spring turkey hunting season beginning this month.)

Why Gun Popularity Matters Now

Wild turkey is a popular spring-time hunting sport. With April here, the spring hunting season is kicking off now. The American rifle market features several manufacturers who have earned their position and popularity through decades of proven performance. Both directly and indirectly, the U.S. arms and ammunition industry generated over $90 billion in economic output in 2023 and employed over 384,000 Americans, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation. In recent years, surging demand for firearms, particularly MSRs, has been a boon for American gunmakers.
