Kuala Lumpur police cracked down on Mat Rempit activity with a major traffic operation on Saturday night, checking around 1,500 vehicles along Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Kuching and Jalan Tun Razak.

During Op Tutup, conducted as part of Op Selamat 23 in conjunction with Chinese New Year, the police and road transport department (JPJ) focused on motorcyclists who were gathered at various locations around the city.

In a statement, KL police’s traffic enforcement and investigation department (JSPT) chief assistant commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said authorities issued over 1,000 summonses for various offences. Of these, 789 were issued by the police, while 250 were issued by JPJ.
