It looks like Netflix is raising its prices again

If you’re a Netflix subscriber, it’s time to open your wallets a little wider as the company has announced that they are raising prices yet again. With this change, users can expect to see an increase in price ranging from $1 up to $2.50, depending on which tier you are subscribed to.

According to Netflix, the standard membership without advertisements will increase from $15.49 to $17.99. Netflix’s premium tier which supports 4K video will jump by $2 and is now priced at $24.99 a month. The company’s cheapest tier which comes with ads will increase by $1 and is now priced at $7.99 a month.

What’s interesting is that these price hikes come on Netflix’s biggest ever jump in subscribers. The company revealed that it managed to gain 19 million subscribers in the last quarter of 2024. This puts the total number of subscribers at 302 million worldwide. Netflix is attributing its recent success to the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul boxing match from last November.

Netflix has continuously raised its prices over the years, so we doubt this is the last time we’ll see this happen. It’s not surprising, though. As the company gains more subscribers, they’ll have to invest in a more robust infrastructure to handle the traffic. The company also needs to spend more money creating shows and licensing content to keep its subscribers happy.

However, we have to wonder how long this can continue. At some point it will simply be too expensive to remain a subscriber. Users may end up resorting to piracy if these subscriptions get too pricey.
