To no surprise, the Los Angeles Lakers are being viewed as clear winners of the trade, according to the betting market. For the Dallas Mavericks, the deal isn’t having such a favourable impact.
On the latest NBA futures market on BetMGM, the Lakers moved from +4000 to +1400 as favourites to raise the Larry O’Brien trophy.
The Mavericks dropped down the NBA title odds from +2000 to +3000.
It’s certainly a significant jump for the Lakers, but it’s not enough to get them close to the clear-cut favourites like the Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder, who are both +225 to win it all. Despite leading the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers sit at +800 while the New York Knicks come in at +1200 before the Lakers and Denver Nuggets at +1400.
Since the deal, 64 per cent of bets and 57 per cent of money placed in the NBA championship market has been on the Lakers to win. This has also impacted the Lakers’ odds to win the Western Conference, going from from +2000 to +900.
