Gruff Rhys announces ‘American Interior’ 10th anniversary North American tour

In 2014, Gruff Rhys released American Interior, which was an album and soundtrack to his documentary about trying to retrace the steps of distant Rhys relative and explorer John Evans, who traveled through North America in the 1790s trying to locate a lost tribe of Welsh-speaking natives. For the album’s 10th anniversary, Gruff is bringing American Interior back to the US and Canada. “I know it’s 11th but I ran out of time last year,” Gruff says.

Like he did in 2014, Gruff’s American Interior shows will be be a mix of songs and a power-point presentation about John Evans (who in the film and artwork is played by a puppet). It’s a super entertaining show, full of Rhys’ sly humor and great songs, and he’ll do a few songs from the rest of his solo catalog as well.

The tour begins in NYC on April 9 at Le Poisson Rouge, and tickets for all dates go on sale Friday, January 31 at 10 AM local time. All dates are listed, along with the “American Interior” video, an album stream and the documentary trailer, below.

Meanwhile, Gruff’s Super Furry Animals bandmates are releasing a new album as Das Koolies in May. Both Das Koolies and Gruff will be at Y Lle Da: The Good Place Festival in Tenby, Wales in March, and we can only hope that there will be some collaborating going on. SFA haven’t played live since 2016 and haven’t released an album since 2009.
