Grand Seiko’s New Hi-Beat Limited Edition Mimics the Wintry “Mountainscape” of Mount Iwate

Grand Seiko has unveiled the SLGH027, a limited-edition timepiece starring a silvery-blue textured dial. Dubbed “Mountainscape,” the new reference draws its aesthetic inspiration from the ridges of Mount Iwate, a pattern first introduced in 2006 and closely associated with Grand Seiko mechanical watchmaking. Mount Iwate's rugged mountainscape and lava flow, reflecting its history as one of Japan's most active volcanoes, are captured in the striking light-blue hue of the dial, evoking the purity of the surrounding air and water. As a new addition to the Evolution 9 Collection, the timepiece arrives in the series' signature case, paired with multi-faceted indices and hands. The case and bracelet are made of Ever-Brilliant Steel, a stainless-steel alloy with superior corrosion resistance compared to typical watch industry materials. This alloy enhances the hairline-finished parts of the watch, giving it a whiter shine that complements the silver-blue dial, resulting in a striking yet harmonious finish.Powered by the 9SA5 Hi-Beat automatic movement, the watch offers an 80-hour power reserve thanks to the efficient Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels. The movement, inspired by the rippling waves of the nearby Shizukuishi River, is visible through the open sapphire caseback. The SLGH027 “Mountainscape” boasts a retail price point of $10,500 USD. Releasing in May, the watch will be available in a limited production of 1,200 units via Grand Seiko and select retailers worldwide.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
