AH Google Pixel Watch 3 Review (16)

As you may know, keeping your phone plugged in for several hours can damage its battery health. While many know about it, they tend to ignore the impact of overcharging on the battery. That’s why Google came up with Adaptive Charging as a solution. That feature helps preserve Pixel phones’ battery health by preventing overcharging. Now, it seems that the Adaptive Charging feature may soon come to Google’s Pixel Watch lines.

The Pixel Watch lineups might soon get the Adaptive Charging feature as the Pixel phones

Folks over at Android Authority today reported spotting a few code strings in the latest version of the Pixel Watch Management Service system app. Interestingly, those codes hinted at Adaptive Charging, a feature that’s been there in Pixel phones for a long time now.

It’s worth noting that the spotted feature isn’t available to use just yet. So, it’s unclear how Adaptive Charging would work on the Google Pixel Watch. But, we expect the functionality to be similar to the Google Pixel smartphones. Usually, the Adaptive Charging feature learns from your charging habit and avoids charging your device to 100% until an hour before you usually unplug it.

That said, it could be less likely to help some of Google’s smartwatch owners. Since some use the Pixel Watch for sleep tracking, they would usually charge it during the day. As you may know, the latest Pixel Watch 3 requires daily charging since it only offers 24-hour battery life with Always ON enabled. With that short battery life, it’s hard to imagine someone unplugging their watch at only 80% every time to prevent overcharging.

It’s unclear which Pixel Watch model would first receive this feature

While Adaptive Charging wouldn’t help increase the estimated usage hours, it would certainly help prolong the watch’s battery health in the long run. All that said, we don’t know which Pixel Watch would first receive the Adaptive Charging feature. Moreover, there’s no word on if or when Google will update its wrist-worn wearables with this handy feature.
