Entries Open for 2025 Super Trofeo NA Season
Lamborghini reveals subtle changes for upcoming Super Trofeo North America season...
The entry process is open for the 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season, which will feature several changes and enhancements particularly on driver categorization requirements.
The IMSA-sanctioned single-make series will enter its 13th season this year, competing exclusively on WeatherTech SportsCar Championship weekends at U.S. rounds, as part of a change for the upcoming campaign.
While there has been a slight increase to the full-season entry fee, it has been compensated by an additional set of tires to be utilized at all events, increasing the allotment from three to four sets of Hankook’s high performance Ventus racing tire.
Teams will receive a $5,000 discount if they pre-pay the entry fee, which includes shipping to the Lamborghini World Final in Misano, by this month.
Lamborghini North America Senior Motorsport Manager Erik Skirmants told Sportscar365 that he expects the field to again reach near a capacity 40-car grid, especially with several new teams, including RAFA Racing Team, having already committed.
Sportscar365 knows of at least two other teams new to the series that have yet to be announced.
Skirmants revealed they’ve sold 14 new Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2s, all of which are expected to be on the Super Trofeo grid, with the potential of a few more depending on customer demand.
Super Trofeo, backed by the nation’s leading Lamborghini dealerships, is one of the few single-make series that permits two-driver lineups, allowing for driver coaches to race alongside their students for accelerated development.
“Joining Lamborghini late in the 2024 season, I had a chance to connect with all our B2B team partners and many drivers to review our Super Trofeo series strengths,” said Skirmants.
“This input gave us the opportunity to refine the overall business case and the entry packages we offer our teams and competitors.
“Coming off a record year for participation we are confident we have again elevated our industry leading balance of competition and racer VIP experience.
“Additionally, by choosing to align with IMSA’s premier WeatherTech SportsCar Championship events we maximize our ability to have world-class event management, scrutineering and race operations at all events.”
One of the key changes for 2025 comes within driver categorization, which will see all drivers in the Lamborghini Young Driver program compete in the Pro class regardless of their FIA driver rating.
Additionally, there will be “extremely limited” Silver-rated driver derogations to run in the Am class, with a derogation list set to be published to ensure full transparency.
Series officials will also continue to enforce time limits in the Pro class and automatic elevations for winning championships.
“As we usher in the 13th season of Lamborghini Super Trofeo in North America, we are excited for another great year of racing exclusively with IMSA on what we believe is the best season schedule we’ve had, both from the quality of tracks that we visit and the cadence in events,” said Angelo Dinkov, Lamborghini North America Motorsports Operations and Sporting Coordinator.
“The series is also entering its second year with a robust testing schedule with our series partner, APEX Driving Events, providing Lamborghini supported testing days to our series competitors ahead of race weekends.
“In addition for 2025, a more defined ‘Young Driver Program’ will be announced soon, allowing ‘Young Drivers’ to track their progress throughout the season with a points system, showing progress and measurable results.
“Further changes have been implemented to our driver classing structure as defined in the sporting regulations to ensure healthy and fair competition in all of the classes.
“With single-make racing becoming a more competitive space in North America our goal is to continue to improve the Super Trofeo series at a global level to be the benchmark for one-make championships both on and off the track.”
The six-event, 12-race season kicks off at Sebring International Raceway in March prior to trips to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen International, Road America, Indianapolis Motor Speedway before closing out the season at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy in early November as part of the World Finals.
