At the time, fans were left annoyed by her use of a medical timeout at 3-0 down in the opening set. After receiving treatment on an apparent lower back issue, Raducanu won six straight games to clinch the set before going on to win the match. However, fans hit out at her ‘gamesmanship’ on social media, with one even writing: “This is flat out cheating by the way.” There is no rivalry between the pair, though, and they are in fact friends off the court. Anisimova has now confirmed this after sharing a video of her and Raducanu to her Instagram story. Both players smiled for the camera in the post as they spent time together in Singapore on Sunday. It was the 22-year-old’s best performance at the year’s opening Grand Slam, though. Raducanu also progressed beyond the second round at a Slam for only the second time since her historic US Open triumph in 2021.
