Cineverse Releasing Unrated ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Reboot in Theaters for Labor Day 2025

Peter Dinklage takes over the iconic role of The Toxic Avenger in director Macon Blair’s brand new reboot of the Troma classic, and Deadline has reported this morning that the new movie will be released wide in its UNRATED form in theaters August 29.

We can confirm this report. Toxie will be back on the big screen for Labor Day Weekend!

Bloody Disgusting’s parent company, Cineverse had recently acquired all U.S. and Canadian theatrical, home entertainment, and streaming rights to the film through a deal with Legendary Entertainment, ensuring that The Toxic Avenger would get a mainstream theatrical release here in the United States. You guys demanded it, and we’re making it happen.

And much like Damien Leone’s slasher hits Terrifier 2 and Terrifier 3, we’re not chopping a single thing from Macon Blair’s vision. The Toxic Avenger will be released up on the big screen in all its UNRATED and gory glory, continuing Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting’s commitment to pushing the boundaries and unleashing uncompromised visions of unrated horror.

Stay tuned for much more on The Toxic Avenger, only in theaters on August 29!

Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Julia Davis and Taylour Paige also star in this darkly comedic take on the beloved anti-hero created by Troma back in the 1980s.

“In this bold new chapter of the classic midnight movie franchise created by Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Entertainment, a shocking accident transforms downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze (Dinklage) into a mutant vigilante. Armed with his signature mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son.”

Opening to critical acclaim at Fantastic Fest, The Toxic Avenger has been hailed as a riotous blend of social satire and inventive gore, with a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes at this time.

Macon Blair’s franchise relaunch comes in the wake of four Toxic Avenger movies released between 1984 and 2000, as well as the 1990s animated television series “Toxic Crusaders.”
