Carnival Cruise Line passengers reject technology upgrade

Although technology has become an indispensable part of our everyday lives, many people still look at a vacation as a way to unplug and take a break from it.

Taking a cruise vacation can be an ideal way to sail away from screens and enjoy a digital detox. Internet service on a cruise ship is often expensive and unreliable anyway.

Not every cruise passenger wants to completely abandon technology, however, and some passengers even require access to it for medical and mobility needs.

For those passengers, having the ability to sufficiently charge equipment and devices on a cruise ship is vital to their vacation experience, as one passenger explained in a recent Facebook message to Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald.

Carnival cruise passenger demands better charging capabilities

“We need answers and we need Carnival to do better to help people who need to be able to charge things on the ship,” an unidentified passenger wrote to the brand ambassador.

The passenger shared that adequate charging capabilities are especially important for those who use mobility scooters.

“My husband rents a scooter, which he had for our cruise on the Celebration. There is a charging station in the stateroom for your phones but it does not provide enough power to charge a scooter,” the passenger explained. “It took three hours plus to charge it. Not acceptable and with many cruise passengers needing a scooter. This must change and change soon.”

The passenger also insisted that the cruise line’s ships need charging stations in public areas.

“John, Carnival needs to add more wall plugs in the bar areas. We like to use our tablets in quiet bar areas during off hours. There are none,” the passenger continued. “There should also be power chargers at the tables on Lido and in the [main dining room]. There are not enough of these anywhere on the ship, rooms included.”

As Carnival’s brand ambassador shared the passenger’s message in a Facebook post, he noted that he wasn’t aware of the issue with charging mobility scooters but that he would discuss it with his cruise line colleagues.

Carnival passengers share opinions on cruise ship charging stations

In the post, Heald also asked his followers for feedback on the charging stations request.

“As for charging stations in the bars, lounges and on the tables on the Lido and in the dining rooms, is this what you would really want?” he asked. “Thoughts, please.”

Among a few thousand comments on the post, very few passengers indicated that they think there should be device charging stations in public areas of Carnival cruise ships.

An overwhelming majority of passengers rejected the idea, maintaining that they’re indeed more focused on unplugging during their cruise vacations.

More Carnival cruise news:

“I don’t go on cruises to bury my head in my phone or tablet. I go to have fun, enjoy all the ship has to offer, people watch, and have a good meal,” Marc Rybinski commented. “I charge my phone, tablet, and watch, while I’m sleeping. I see no need for outlets and USB ports in public areas.”

Most Carnival passengers want the cruise ships to retain their social atmosphere.

“Why are these people on a FUN ship if they are on their tablets and phones the whole time? We don’t need charging stations around the ship,” Donna Sherman agreed.

Cruise ships are places to enjoy your vacation, not an airport waiting area on the way to your vacation, as one cruiser pointed out.

“No, we don’t need charging stations around the ship, it would just look junkie like an airport with everybody with their phones charging everywhere,” Cheryl Haulk Keller said.
