It has now emerged that a recent Sony copyright strike that targeted a fan-made Bloodborne 60 FPS mod wasn’t aimed at the mod itself. The Bloodborne community, known for its optimism, started hoping that the copyright strike meant Sony was interested in an official Bloodborne 60 FPS patch, at the very least. But it turns out, the company wasn’t quite interested in taking the mod itself down.

Why Sony took down the Bloodborne 60 FPS mod

Modder Lance McDonald, who was behind the unofficial 60 FPS patch, has clarified that the strike he received was over the use of the title Bloodborne. Womp Womp.

“The DMCA was not against the patch,” McDonald explained on his Discord, as spotted by PushSquare. “They used DMCA to take down the page because the page used the word ‘Bloodborne’ which they own the trademark of. They can’t legally DMCA the patch because it’s 100% code and the patch doesn’t actually even say what game it’s for in it.”

McDonald added that he has no plans to bring the mod back because he doesn’t want to have to work around Sony’s copyright. Given that he’s just one fan up against a scary corporate legal team, we don’t blame him.

So, no Bloodborne 2, then?
