Remakes of two genre works of the very late 1990s are on the way.

First up, Miramax is set to resurrect Robert Rodriguez’s 1998 sci-fi horror thriller “The Faculty” which was scripted by “Scream” scribe Kevin Williamson and starred the likes of Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Famke Janssen and Robert Patrick.

The “Body Snatchers”-esque story followed a group of students who begin to suspect that the off-beat administrators and teachers at their high school are hiding a deadly secret.

Drew Hancock, whose debut feature “Companion” opens today to very good reviews, will write the script. BoulderLight (“Barbarian”) will produce.

Meanwhile, Focus Features, Hyde Park Entertainment and Mario Kassar Productions are nearing a deal to produce a new adaptation of the cult 1997 Japanese horror thriller novel “Audition” which became the acclaimed 1999 Takashi Miike-directed film of the same name.

Danish filmmaker Christian Tafdrup, who helmed the original “Speak No Evil,” will direct and is co-writing with his brother Mads Tafdrup.

The story follows a middle-aged widower who enlists the help of his film producer friend to stage a fake audition in order to meet a new girlfriend, only to find that the dark past of the woman he chooses severely affects their relationship. The film has appeared on several lists of the best horror movies ever made.
