ASUS ZenFone 12 Ultra flagship is official, but it's not coming to the US

ASUS has just announced its latest flagship smartphone, the ZenFone 12 Ultra. This phone does resemble its predecessor quite a bit, and it won’t be coming to the US, unfortunately.

The ASUS ZenFone 12 Ultra is official and it comes with a familiar design

As you can see, even its rear camera island is reminiscent of the ZenFone 11 Ultra, even though it looks a bit different now. It still includes three cameras, though, and it’s still placed in the top-left corner. It’s far from being flush with the backplate.

The phone has flat sides, along with a flat display, and a centered display camera hole. The bezels around the display are rather thin. All the physical buttons sit on the right-hand side, including power/lock and volume rocker keys.

It relies heavily on AI

Now, much like many other phones in the market, this one relies most of its innovation on AI. It can perform AI tasks both online and offline through the cloud, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite has a lot to do with that.

It can transcribe audio, summarize articles and documents, and also provide real-time interpretation on calls for supported languages. Circle to Search is also here, while the onboard AI uses Meta’s Llama 3 8B language model.

The phone features a 6.78-inch fullHD+ LTPO AMOLED display which goes up to 120Hz during use, unless you’re playing a game, then it can jump up to 144Hz if needed. A 5,500mAh battery is included here, while 65W wired charging is supported. The phone also supports 15W wireless charging, but no Qi2.

Three cameras sit on the back, led by Sony’s LYT-700 camera sensor

A 50-megapixel main camera uses Sony’s LYT-700 camera sensor and offers a six-axis gimbal stabilizer. A 32-megapixel telephoto camera is also included on the back with 3x optical zoom, along with a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (120-degree FoV). On the front, a 32-megapixel snapper is included.

In addition to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the phone also offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 flash storage. That storage is not expandable, by the way.

It comes in three color options

The ASUS ZenFone 12 Ultra comes in Ebony Black, Sage Green, and Sakura White color options. The availability was announced for Europe, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The phone is priced at €1,099 in Europe.
