A new report claims Emmy-winning “Shōgun,” “Pachinko” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” star Anna Sawai is being eyed for the role of Yoko Ono in Sam Mendes’ quartet of films about the Beatles.

The InSneider broke the report, the potential casting marking the first role outside the band members themselves to score a casting rumor.

Previously, reports have indicated that actors on the projects will include Harris Dickinson (“Babygirl”) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (“Gladiator II”) as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (“Gladiator II”) as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”) as Ringo Starr.

The plan is for the four films to intersect and “tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history” with everything leading up to their 1970 breakup.

McCartney, Starr, and the families of the late John Lennon and George Harrison have all reportedly granted full life story and music rights for the scripted films – the first time the Beatles have granted their full support for a scripted film.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will both finance and distribute all four films with plans to release all four theatrically in 2027. Sawai recently spent a good portion of the second half of last year in Australia filming the second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” for Apple.
