Alien: Romulus Sequel To Bring Back Sigourney Weaver As De-Aged Ripley | Barside Buzz

Some Xenomorph related Barside Buzz says the Alien: Romulus sequel is looking to bring back Sigourney Weaver as a de-aged Ripley. Given that Romulus director Fede Alvarez has revealed he considered Ripley for that film, perhaps this should be no surprise? The information comes from Daniel RPK on Patreon.

Daniel claims he’s heard this information about the sequel to Romulus, which we know is in the first phase of the scripting process. A sequel to Romulus seems certain, but when, and how that will develop remains to be seen. There are no other details and the possibility leaves me with more questions than answers.

From a studio point of view, having Weaver back as Ripley will help box office. So from a purely financial stand point, bringing back Ripley makes sense on the surface. However, look a little deeper and there would be some massive hurdles to overcome.

If Romulus has a sequel one would expect it to take place not long after? At this time, canonically Ripley is in hypersleep and drifting past all the core systems until the point she is found in Aliens. Aliens is set 57 years post-Alien and probably 30-40 years beyond Romulus. Post-Aliens, Ripley next ends up in the events of Alien 3. Therefore, beyond something like a recording from her Alien period, I cannot see how Ripley can appear in this film? Maybe that is all we are talking about here, a small cameo?

The only way I can see Ripley ever returning as a major player in this franchise is…. A – set it post-Alien: Resurrection, or B – ignore the events of Alien 3 and Resurrection. I know which one I would choose (B), but I cannot see that ever happening.

So, yeah, if this rumor is true, then it’s either a cameo which I don’t care about, or something more bizarre. Let’s see shall we?
