IDW Entertainment is teaming up with Steven Schneider and Roy Lee’s Spooky Pictures (Late Night with the Devil) to adapt the horror comic Dungeon by Scott Snyder and Hayden Sherman, THR reports today.
The serial killer tale ran as a five-issue comic miniseries in 2023 and 2024.
Dungeon begins “when a family moves from the Big Apple to upstate New York to escape the hustle and bustle. However, their father’s dream of a quiet rural life is shattered when he discovers a dungeon underneath their land, filled with torture devices, weapons, and a threatening message on the wall that reads, ‘Tell No One.’ The discovery sets up a paranoid serial kidnapping mystery where no one, not even the father’s child, is safe, and not even the FBI agent assigned to the case can help.”
Schneider and Lee will produce the adaptation along with Daniel Kendrick of IDW Entertainment, the screen arm of IDW Publishing. The producers are prolific in the horror space, with Lee having most recently produced Barbarian, Strange Darling, and this weekend’s Companion. Schneider has worked on the Insidious and Paranormal Activity movies and is currently set to executive produce the upcoming Silent Night, Deadly Night reimagining.
“There’s no shortage of serial killer stories in the marketplace; the challenge is finding one that is both terrifying and goes to places we haven’t seen before,” Spooky’s Steven Schneider told THR. “Dungeon is it. And even as longtime fans and producers in the genre, we found ourselves haunted by what we read. This is our Silence of the Lambs and Se7en.”
Dungeon isn’t the only Snyder horror comic creation getting adapted to screen; Rob Savage was recently announced as the director for the upcoming adaptation of Dark Horse comic Night of the Ghoul.
Stay tuned for additional details on Dungeon as they arrive.
