26 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

JAMIE XX – “F.U.” (ft. ERYKAH BADU)

Jamie xx follows last year’s In Waves with another loosie, “F.U.,” a sorta-collaboration with Erykah Badu. Here’s how it came to be, in Jamie’s words: “A few years ago, I was playing at a Primavera afterparty in Barcelona with Erykah Badu. The decks stopped working and she just freestyled this incredible acapella performance, fully improvised, just her and the mic. I managed to record a bit of that, and it became the basis for the track. We connected about it when I was finishing the album and it became a track I really love.”

FCUKERS – “BON BON” ANDREW VANWYNGARDEN (MGMT) REMIX

Fcukers’ hard-to-resist single “Bon Bon” has already been remixed by Confidence Man and now MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden has given it a more techno-heavy spin.

ULTRA DELUXE – “HOUSED IN THE ARCTIC”

New York experimental emo band Ultra Deluxe have announced a new album, The Floria Wars, due March 28 via Lonely Ghost Records. Lead single “Housed In The Arctic” finds the band sounding as uniquely genre-blurring as ever.

MIYA FOLICK – “FIST”

Miya Folick’s newa lbum Erotica Veronica comes out next month, and she’s shared another single from it, “Fist.” “Fist is about rage,” she says. “It’s about sexual trauma and generational trauma and what that does to our feelings of safety, self, and home. What it does to the people we are in relationship with. I wrote this song by candlelight in the first place I really considered my home, recorded with a team who really made me feel seen.”

SLOW CRUSH – “CHERRY”

After recently signing to Pure Noise, heavy shoegazers Slow Crush have shared the new single “Cherry.” They’re planning to release a new album this year too; details TBA.

Q LAZZARUS – “I SEE YOUR EYES”

Enigmatic singer Q Lazzarus, who died in 2022, is finally getting an album’s worth of material (most of it previously unheard) released on compilation Goodbye Horses. “I See Your Eyes” has a late-’80s Echo & The Bunnymen feel.

GORDI – “ALIEN COWBOY”

Gordi is preparing to release her third album, and while there’s still no official word on that, she’s shared alt-pop track “Alien Cowboy,” which she worked on with Matias Mora. ““I was thinking about what a gay utopia would look like,” Gordi says. “Mr Morale & The Big Steppers had just come out and we had it blaring through the speakers. I sat down at the piano and we recorded this low, subby, deteriorated part. I was imagining a scene – stumbling through the desert and this mirage appears, this beautiful Salvador Dali-type world. Everything is melting and there is this giant figure, with their hand outstretched inviting me in. Fabricating an imaginary place where, as queer people, you could feel wholly accepted. When I got to the chorus, I wanted to turn this fictitious place into something internal, and suddenly maybe it’s not a place at all, but a feeling.”

MONGREL – “WRECKAGE IN OUR PATH”

San Diego death-metallic hardcore band Mongrel have announced a new EP, due out February 21 via DAZE and HardLore Records. The first single is called “Wreckage In Our Path,” and you can already visualize the pit opening up to its crisp fury.

BUFFET LUNCH – “BLUE CHAIRS, BLUE FLOORS, BLUE FOLDERS”

Perfect Hit!, on April 4 via Upset The Rhythm. The first single is the kind of warmly shambolic earworm that Scottish groups do so well.

ALISON KRAUSS & UNION STATION – “LOOKS LIKE THE END OF THE ROAD”

“Usually, I find something that’s a first song, and then things fall into place,” Alison Krauss says of the opening track from her and Union Station’s first album in 14 years. “That song was ‘Looks Like The End Of The Road.’ Jeremy Lister wrote it, and it just felt so alive – and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it.”

JULIEN BAKER & TORRES – “SYLVIA”

Julien Baker and Torres officially announced their collaborative album and shared the second single, which you can read more about here.

SOPHIA KENNEDY – “RODEO”

“There’s a saying, ‘Don’t call us, we call you.’ That’s what Rodeo did. We didn’t call Rodeo, it called us,” Sophia Kennedy says. “It wrote itself, immediate and direct. We’ve only ever played it live, with just piano and bass. Back in the studio, we gave it a groove and a psychedelic guitar.” Squeeze Me is out in May.

PIERRE KWENDERS – “WE LIKE” FT POTÉ
