Best graphic design laptop-PC similar to MacBook Pro

OS: Windows 11 Home | Display: 16″ WQXGA Display | CPU: Intel 13th Gen Core i7 | Graphics: Integrated (Intel Iris Xe graphics) | RAM: 32GB LPDDR5 RAM | Storage: 2TB SSD

For graphic designers seeking a device that effortlessly handles the intricacies of creative work, the LG Gram 16” might just be the perfect MacBook replacement. It’s lightweight yet powerful enough to run my favorite graphic design apps with ease.

The LG Gram, equipped with Intel’s 13th Gen Core i7 processor and Intel Iris Xe graphics, was incredibly effective for my graphic design tasks. It handled software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator smoothly, allowing for seamless rendering of high-resolution images and complex designs.

The 16″ WQXGA Non-Reflective IPS Display, with its DCI-P3 99% color gamut, was a helpful feature. I recall working on a branding project where color precision was crucial, and the LG Gram’s display reproduced the hues exactly as needed, ensuring the final design matched my vision.

With 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD, the LG Gram offered ample space and speed, invaluable for working on large design files. The quick memory supported efficient multitasking, allowing me to switch between applications without lag. This was especially helpful during tight deadlines when working across multiple design platforms simultaneously.

The lightweight design of the LG Gram was a significant advantage. As someone who often worked remotely, the ease of carrying this laptop around was a relief. The long battery life was another feature that stood out, as it allowed me to work uninterrupted for extended periods without needing to recharge.

The laptop’s durability, certified by MIL-STD-810H standards, gave me peace of mind, especially when traveling. The variety of ports, including Thunderbolt 4, ensured easy connection to external devices, necessary for my workflow involving multiple screens and graphic tablets.

However, there were areas where the LG Gram could have improved. The audio performance was average, therefore I had to use external speakers. The presence of bloatware was a minor annoyance, though it was not a deal-breaker as I removed it. The keyboard, while functional, could have been more comfortable for long hours of design work.

In summary, the LG Gram 16” Lightweight Laptop was a stellar choice for graphic designers. Its blend of performance, display quality, portability, and connectivity made it a versatile and reliable laptop for a wide range of graphic design tasks.

Best value for money Mac Book Pro alternative

OS: Windows 11 Home | Display: 16″ QHD+ 240Hz or Dual-Mode UHD+ 120Hz / FHD+ 240Hz | CPU: Intel Core i9-13950HX | Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 | RAM: 16GB DDR5 | Storage: 1TB PCIe SSD

For gamers and creative professionals looking for a powerful, high-end laptop, the Razer Blade 16 is a standout choice. With cutting-edge performance, a premium build, and a high refresh rate display, this laptop is built for those who demand top-tier performance for gaming, video editing, and 3D rendering.

From the moment I powered on the Razer Blade 16, the 16-inch QHD+ display with a 240Hz refresh rate impressed me with ultra-smooth visuals and incredible clarity. The 16:10 aspect ratio adds more vertical space, making it perfect for both immersive gaming and productivity tasks. Razer also offers a Dual-Mode Mini LED display, allowing users to switch between UHD+ (120Hz) for high-resolution content creation and FHD+ (240Hz) for competitive gaming.

Performance-wise, the Intel Core i9-13950HX, paired with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and the NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU, delivers exceptional multitasking power. Whether playing AAA games, editing 4K videos, or running demanding software, the Blade 16 handles it effortlessly. The 1TB PCIe SSD ensures fast load times and plenty of storage for large files and games.

The CNC aluminum unibody chassis gives the laptop a sleek, durable feel, and the per-key RGB keyboard and large glass trackpad provide an excellent user experience. The THX spatial audio speakers further enhance immersion, making it great for both gaming and media consumption.

However, the Razer Blade 16 comes at a premium price, making it an investment for serious users. Battery life is also limited, offering around 5 hours per charge, which is expected given its high-performance hardware. Additionally, while the cooling system is effective, fan noise can get noticeable under heavy loads.

PROS CONS
➕ Powerful Intel Core i9-13950HX and NVIDIA RTX 4060 for gaming and creative tasks ➖ High price point makes it a luxury gaming laptop
➕ Premium aluminum build with a sleek and stylish design ➖ Battery drains quickly under heavy use

Best non-Apple laptop on budget

OS: Windows 11 Pro | Display:  15.6 Inches | CPU: Intel Core i7-1355U | Graphics: Integrated | RAM: 16 GB | Storage: up to 2TB

The SAMSUNG 15.6″ Galaxy Book3 Business Laptop is another great choice on my list for those on a tight budget, but don’t be fooled by its price, as it has tons to offer.

Equipped with a 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor and Intel Iris Xe Graphics, the Galaxy Book3 provided ample power for most creative tasks. During my time with it, whether it was graphic design, video editing, or digital art, the laptop handled everything smoothly. I was particularly impressed with its performance while working on complex Photoshop projects, as it managed multiple layers and effects without any lag.

With 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, the Galaxy Book3 offered sufficient memory and storage for various creative applications. The SSD ensured quick boot times and fast access to files, which was beneficial when juggling between different projects and applications.

The build quality of the laptop, a mix of aluminum and plastic, gave it a decent feel, although it felt plasticky in areas like the suspension, hinges, and keyboard. The keyboard was compact, backlit, and included a numeric keypad and an integrated fingerprint reader in the power button, enhancing both functionality and security.

The 15.6″ matte IPS display, with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, was adequate for most tasks, but it covered only 60% of the sRGB color scale and exhibited some white point shifting at different angles. This limitation in color accuracy became apparent when working on color-critical tasks. The audio quality was acceptable, with good stereo and balance, though it lacked detail and depth in sound.

The laptop offered a good range of ports, including two USB Type-C and two USB Type-A ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5 mm headphone/microphone port, along with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. This range of ports was useful for connecting various peripherals needed in my creative workflow.

In conclusion, the SAMSUNG Galaxy Book3 Business Laptop was a solid choice for creatives looking for a budget-friendly yet capable laptop. Its performance, storage, and connectivity made it suitable for a variety of creative tasks.

Best alternative to MacBook Pro for writers

OS: Windows 11 Home | Display: 15.6” Full HD IPS Display with a 144Hz refresh rate | CPU: Intel 12th Gen i7-12650H | Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU | RAM: 16GB DDR5 | Storage: 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD

The Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop is a spectacular choice for typographers. Despite its gaming-oriented model, my experience with this laptop revealed its potential as a powerful device for typography and other creative niches.

The Acer Nitro 5 is equipped with a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12650H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU. This combination provides more than enough power for typography software, which often requires handling high-resolution graphics and complex vector designs. I found this particularly useful when working with intricate font designs, where the laptop handled rendering and real-time previews without any hiccups.

One of the standout features for me was the 15.6” FHD 144Hz IPS display. The high refresh rate might seem overkill for typography, but it ensures smooth scrolling and crisp visuals, which is essential when working on detailed typographic layouts. The color accuracy and clarity of the display were beneficial for ensuring that the designs looked consistent across different mediums.

With 16GB DDR5 RAM and a 1TB Gen 4 SSD, the Acer Nitro 5 offers ample memory and storage space. This was particularly advantageous when dealing with large design files and ensured that the laptop could handle multiple applications simultaneously without any performance issues.

However, there are some drawbacks to consider. The build quality of the Acer Nitro 5 is middling, and it may not feel as premium as some of its competitors. Additionally, while the laptop is equipped with a powerful GPU, it falls short of 60fps in most high-end gaming scenarios, which might be a concern for those who plan to use it for gaming as well.

In conclusion, the Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop is an excellent choice for typographers and creatives in various niches. Its powerful processor, high-quality display, and ample storage make it a versatile tool for a wide range of creative tasks.

PROS CONS
➕ Suitable for a range of creative applications beyond typography. ➖ Middling build quality.
➕ Ample memory and storage for large design files. ➖ Falls short of 60fps in high-end gaming scenarios.
➕ High refresh rate display for smooth visuals.

Best animation Windows laptop that is comparable to MacBook Pro

OS: Windows 11 Home | Display: 17.3″ QHD 240Hz | CPU: 13th Gen Intel Core i9 | Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 | RAM: 32 GB DDR5 | Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD

For animators, finding a laptop that can handle the demanding nature of animation software while also providing a high-quality display for accurate color representation is a significant challenge. This is why I selected the MSI Stealth 17 Studio 17.3 Laptop

The heart of the MSI Stealth 17 Studio is its 13th Gen Intel Core i9 processor, coupled with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU. This combination provided me with the necessary power to run demanding animation software like Autodesk Maya and Adobe After Effects smoothly. I particularly appreciated the seamless rendering and real-time playback capabilities when working on complex 3D models and animations.

The 17.3″ QHD display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut was also amazing. The high refresh rate ensured smooth motion in animations, and the wide color gamut offered accurate color representation, which is crucial for detailed animation work. I found this especially useful when color grading and fine-tuning the visual details of my animations.

With 32GB DDR5 RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD, the laptop offered ample memory and storage. This was beneficial for handling large animation files and ensured that the system remained responsive even under heavy workloads. The fast data transfer speeds, thanks to Thunderbolt 4, were a significant advantage when transferring large files or connecting to high-speed external storage.

The laptop’s design, featuring a black sand-blasted metal chassis, was both stylish and durable. The reinforced hinge was a thoughtful addition, ensuring the screen stayed in place during intense work sessions.

However, there were some limitations. The laptop’s battery life was not particularly long, which is a common issue with high-performance laptops. I often found myself tethered to a power outlet during long animation sessions. Additionally, the laptop’s weight and size made it less portable than some of its competitors.

In conclusion, the MSI Stealth 17 Studio 17.3″ QHD 240Hz Gaming Laptop is an excellent choice for animators. Its powerful processing capabilities, high-quality display, and ample storage make it well-suited for animation and other creative tasks.

PROS CONS
➕ Powerful Intel Core i9 processor and NVIDIA RTX 4080 GPU. ➖ Limited battery life.
➕ Falls short of 60fps in high-end gaming scenarios. ➖ Less portable due to size and weight.
➕ High-quality QHD display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut.

OS: Windows 11 Pro | Display: 16″ QHD (2560 x 1600) | CPU: Intel Core i9 12th Gen i9-12950HX Hexadeca-core (16 Core) 2.30 GHz | Graphics: NVIDIA RTX A2000 | RAM: 32 GB Total RAM | Storage: 1 TB SSD

Last on my list, but certainly not least, is the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 G1, a powerhouse I’ve selected for architects and interior designers. Its key features, such as the high-performance Intel Core i9 processor, a vibrant 16-inch high-resolution display, and a powerful NVIDIA RTX A2000 graphics card, render it perfectly suited for the intensive demands of 3D rendering and interior design.

The ThinkPad P16 G1’s 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12950HX Hexadeca-core processor provides the computational strength necessary for complex architectural software. It effortlessly handles software like AutoCAD and SketchUp, even when working with large 3D models. The 32 GB of RAM was more than sufficient to run multiple programs simultaneously without any lag.

Storage is another strong point of the ThinkPad P16 G1, with a 1 TB SSD providing ample space and much faster data transfer speeds compared to standard hard drives. This was advantageous when dealing with large files typical in architectural work.

The NVIDIA RTX A2000 8 GB discrete graphic card in the laptop provided excellent ability in a variety of multimedia applications. This was evident when I was rendering complex 3D models, where the graphics card ensured smooth and fast rendering.

However, there are some drawbacks to consider. The laptop is quite bulky and heavy, which might be a concern for professionals who need a portable device. The absence of an Ethernet port was also a limitation, I mitigated this issue with a USB adapter. Additionally, the high cost of the ThinkPad P16 G1 might be a barrier for some, but it’s a worthwhile investment for the level of performance it offers.

In conclusion, the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 G1 is an excellent choice for architects and interior designers. Its powerful processor, high-quality display, and ample storage make it well-suited for tasks like 3D rendering and interior designing.
