Unknown Mortal Orchestra announce new album (hear “earth 1”)

Unknown Mortal Orchestra have announced the latest album in their instrumental IC series where they pick a city to spend time in, collaborate and improvise on non-vocal music. This one is titled IC-02 Bogotá and that is the Columbian city where they made it. This also marks the recorded debut of new UMO keyboardist Christian Li, and the band describe it as “possible background music for some strange parties and night drives in your future.”

You can listen “earth 1,” which opens the album on a dense, percussive and dark note. Check that out below.

UMO will play Pasadena’s Just Like Heaven on May 10 with Vampire Weekend, Rilo Kiley, Empire of the Sun, Bloc Party, TV on the Radio, The Drums, Courtney Barnett, Toro y Moi, Peter Bjorn and John and more. Just before that, they’ll play Mexico City’s Auditorio BB on May 8. Those are their only live dates at the moment.
