Rivian's Electric Delivery Van Was a Best-Seller in 2024
You may have seen a Rivian van delivering Amazon packages or running errands around town, but you probably didn’t know that the automaker sold more of them than Ford’s electric E-Transit or the new Chevrolet Brightdrop van.
You may have seen a Rivian van delivering Amazon packages or running errands around town, but you probably didn’t know that the automaker sold more of them than Ford’s electric E-Transit or the new Chevrolet Brightdrop van.
Rivian moved 13,423 vans last year, a 66-percent boost over 2023’s 8,091 units. Ford only moved 12,610 E-Transits, and there were only 1,529 Brightdrops sold last year. Despite coming in second, Ford’s electric van sales still climbed an impressive 64 percent in 2024. It’s worth noting that Rivian saw success with the R1S SUV, which made it into the top ten best-selling EVs in the United States for 2024.
Commercial sales make up a significant portion of those numbers. Everyday buyers can snag a Ford E-Transit from the automaker’s website, but Rivian and GM’s vans are not up for sale for just anyone to buy. Most of the Rivian vans likely went to Amazon, which contracted the automaker to deliver 100,000 electrified vans by 2030. While the pair had an exclusive agreement at first, Rivian was able to wiggle out of the Amazon-only commitment while retaining its deal to build the vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz landed at the number-four spot with its eSprinter, which started production in late 2023 at the company’s South Carolina factory. It only moved 191 vans last year, likely due to the fact that it’s one of the least-known electrified commercial vehicles on sale.
